Prayer and Your Faith Journey

“Our prayers may be awkward. Our attempts may be feeble. But since the power of prayer is in the one who hears it and not in the one who says it, our prayers do make a difference.”

Max Lucado knew what he was talking about when it comes to prayer. He re-frames the act of prayer from being about us to being about God. He explains that although it can be messy, prayer is a powerful and important part of our lives as believers. Here at ACCTV, the team prioritises starting the week with prayers. There’s something unique about people gathering to pray. Curious to hear more thoughts on the role of prayer in people’s faith journey’s, we took it to ask how prayer is important in your spiritual life. Check out some of the thoughts we gathered…

“My world and the world around me is always changing and moving so fast. It is so good to have a God to come back to in prayer throughout the day or at the end of the day. A God that is always there and listening, and actually cares about all that… I’m going through. ”

“Prayer’s important to me because it helps me put and keep everything in perspective. By bringing stuff I’m stressed about or working on to God, I’m reminded that He’s got it, and I can calm down a bit, which is awesome.”

“I think prayer is one of the main ways I connect with God. Just having another means to communicate with Him that is extremely powerful. The fact that prayers shift things in heavenly realms is amazing. Another thing that God’s been teaching me about prayer is the places my prayers are coming from… are they coming from desperation or authority? And are they in line with God’s promises and to see His Kingdom come?”

” I’d say prayer fits in my faith journey in many ways…it changes my posture towards God and others, it opens and invites God to actively participate. It reminds me of God’s character… it invites me to honesty with God and others.”

“Prayer centres me, calms me, helps me focus and allows me to rest in the presence of God. It is in the flow of communion with God that I find my peace, my strength and my being.”

Communication is the constant that keeps me tethered to a righteous way. Whatever has been thrown up at me and however I am feeling about it (whether positive or salty) when I’m talking it out with God my perspective, attitude, and outlook are altered. Most of the time it is humility that I’m receiving.”

What are your thoughts? How is prayer about of your journey and walk with God? We would love to hear from you!
