This morning I had the privilige of talking with motivational speaker and author, Lizzie Velasquez. Her story is one of forgiveness and courage.
Lizzie was born with a rare condition (Marfan and Lipodystrophy) and is unable to gain weight. She has never weighed more than 27.5 kilograms.
The 27-year-old became known when a video labelling her the “ugliest women in the world” went viral. The most shocking part of the saga was the stream of hurtful comments that followed.
Today, when we sat down to chat I instantly felt welcomed by her. Even though we were speaking from different countries, Lizzie’s big smile and giggle (as she tried to restrain her dog, Ollie) made me feel like we were in the same room. I knew then that this was going to be a memorable chat!
Perhaps one of the most impacting moments of her story for me, was the way Lizzie described turning her horrible experience around, through discovering the power of forgiveness.
“I think if I wasn’t able to forgive the person who posted the bad video of me or all the people who said such horrible things, I don’t think I’d be able to be where I am today or be who I am today,” she said.

Five+ billion impressions, nine film festivals, 10 film festival awards and a 100% Rotten Tomatoes Audience score, prove that Lizzie is the new kind of Hero that the world is waiting for.
The documentary, A Brave Heart: The Lizzie Velasquez Story is available now on DVD and Digital.
